- Stallworthy, Jon
- (1935- )Born in London to New Zealand parents, his father, Sir John Stallworthy, was Nuffield Professor of Obstetrics at Oxford University. Educated at Rugby School, he served in the Royal West African Frontier Force before continuing his education at Magdalen College, Oxford University (M.A. and B.Litt.). He joined Oxford University Press as poetry editor and became a deputy academic publisher until 1977. From 1977 to 1986 he was John Wendell Anderson Professor of English at Cornell University, New York, and from 1992 to 2000, professor of English literature at Oxford University, then emeritus senior research fellow, Wolfson College, Oxford. He is a noted translator of the works of Russian poet Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Blok (1880-1921). Some of his more recent publications: The Apple Barrel: Selected Poems 1956-1963, 1974.
